Introduction to Embedded LNS

This documentation set is organized into multiple releases that reflect the evolution of Embedded LNS functionality across different BSP versions.  Each document corresponds to a specific Embedded LNS release and outlines the supported workflows within the Kona Link application, as well as configurations that are completed through Node-RED.

Embedded LNS enables users to manage gateways, device profiles, devices, and codecs, and to configure common integrations such as BACnet, Modbus, and MQTT depending on the BSP version in use.

Embedded LNS BSP 7.1.10.6 Release

With this BSP version, users can:

  • Add gateways, devices, and codecs using Embedded LNS pages in the Kona Link application
  • Configure:
    • BACnet
    • Modbus
    • MQTT

These configurations can be completed using Node-RED links available in the Kona Link application.

Embedded LNS BSP 7.1.12.8 and 7.1.16.3 Releases

Key improvements in these BSP releases include:

  • Gateways are shipped from the factory pre-configured with Embedded LNS.
  • Users can add device profiles using the Kona Link application:
  • Pre-existing device profile templates for common TEKTELIC devices
  • Manual device profile creation including codec information
  • Users can proceed to add devices using the Kona Link application.
  • BACnet server setup can be setup directly through the Kona Link application

Embedded LNS BSP 7.2.13 and Above Releases

BSP version 7.2.13 and above introduce major licensing and provisioning enhancements.

This release includes:

  • Embedded LNS operation is enforced through a mandatory, valid license key
  • The capability to convert an External LNS gateway into an Embedded LNS gateway
  • Key Feature improvements

NOTE: Each license is uniquely generated using the gateway’s fingerprint, is valid only for that specific gateway, and cannot be reused on any other device. Before using BSP version 7.2.13 or later, users must refer to the Embedded LNS Licensing Process document

Key improvements in these BSP releases include:

  • Improved BACnet server, with:
  • Improved support for downlinks via BACnet
  • Proper change-of-value (CoV) subscription support with configurable CoV increments
  • Priority array support
  • Better Modbus support
  • Node-RED is no longer required for Modbus support. It is all configured through KONA Link.
  • Simplified mapping of LoRaWAN parameters to Modbus registers.
  • Ability to trigger LoRaWAN downlinks through Modbus.
  • More built-in device profile templates for TEKTELIC devices

Embedded LNS Licensing Process

This document explains the Embedded LNS licensing process for TEKTELIC gateways running BSP version 7.2.10.1 or later, including all supported licensing scenarios (upgrade, conversion, and factory-provisioned gateways). It walks users through retrieving the gateway fingerprint in Kona Link, requesting a license from TEKTELIC Sales, and installing/validating the license. It also includes basic troubleshooting for common fingerprint access and license upload issues.

Convert a KONA Gateway from External LNS to Embedded LNS.

This guide explains how to convert a supported TEKTELIC KONA gateway from an external LoRaWAN Network Server configuration to Embedded LNS using the KONA Link web UI.
